Our instructor insurance is specially arranged and managed to offer you tailored martial arts instructor cover which runs with membership. In order to obtain competitive prices from our specialist underwriters and brokers, and to protect all of our other members who have instructor insurance under our association’s group cover policy we insist on a couple of key requirements before we can offer you instructor insurance. Please take a look at the following conditions to ensure you’re OK to continue; Â Â If appropriate, you must hold a valid and acceptable DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) check (or equivalent) conducted to the appropriate level.
You must have suitable first aid training and, if required, be able to demonstrate proof of this training
We can provide cover for the use of weapons during classes, provided there are no live blades used. All training weapons must be in a good state of repair, and checked prior to use. A risk assessment must be in place for the use of all weapons and training involving weapons and only relevant weapons are to be used in line with the qualifications or experience held by the instructor
You must follow association guidelines and regulations in relation to conduct, standards and eligibility criteria. There will be certain regulations, conditions or conditions to cover based upon the professional elements we would expect all members to hold – for example, we may require you to undertake a specific risk assessment if your style includes sparring, or we may issue guidance on instructor to student ratios etc. Any association or insurance specific regulations / requirements will be clearly visible from the member’s area once you’re signed up.
You must be able to agree to our association’s terms and conditions, and conditions of membership, which are viewable at checkout or from bmaba.org/legal.
You must ensure that suitable safety equipment is used at all times during lessons, classes and events and a fire risk assessment must be conducted on all premises used for lessons/events and fire evacuation procedures made clear. There must always be a qualified, DBS checked (where required), first aid trained BMABA instructor in the club at all times.
Please ensure you’ve seen the policy documentation (available from the above link) and understand the policy’s cover in full before proceeding. We’re on hand to help if you have questions.
